Yesterday we opened the doors of our stock room, and gave our customers backstage access to the gorgeous pret a portobello summer collections, at bargain prices.
The room was packed to the rafters with all the hottest summer styles you could wish to get your hands on, a delicious mix of summer florals, dreamy maxi's, statement heels and vintage treasures.
Thanks to all of the POP princesses, and few princes, who turned up to raid the rails. The events ‘must-have’ items included black day dresses by Belle Bow, silk rope and chain bracelets by Carrie and Dahlia's foil dinner jackets (pre-loved by Mischa Barton at our last Pop-Up).
My hot pick? The grey feather shoulder Mok Therom dress, a gorgeous little attention stealer and perfect for my summer holiday in a couple of weeks. Feather embellishment is set to be the hottest trend of Autumn/Winter 2010. It’s been scattered across all the catwalks from Galliano, to Lanvin, and Gucci. A-list celebs Lady GaGa, Eva Longoria, and Sienna Miller have been sporting the Feather Trend already…so all the girls snapping them up yesterday are in great company!
The mini cupcakes by 'Angela Cooks' brought some surgery support to our bargain hungry shoppers. But they also went down a little too well with the pret team...needless to say we are all sipping on green tea this morning, although I’m not sure its weightloss properties are enough to counteract the calories we were putting away....ooops!!
There are plenty more pop-ups in pret a portobello's summer plans, so do make sure you sign up to receive our newsletter or join our Facebook or Twitter groups.

Is it just me or do kids seem to do everything so much earlier these days?! Well there's no exception at pretaportobello! Introducing our two newest fashion buyers, Jack and Lily, taking up the gauntlet on behalf of Pret in the South of France. Yes, it's a tough life, but somebody's got to do it!
Due to the latest celeb craze, our straw fedora hats have been selling like hot cakes, and as much as we'd like to be able to, it's quite a trek to nip over to France to restock! Fortunately for us Pret girls (unfortunately stuck in London), Jack and Lily did a great job on our behalf and snapped up a whole load more stock, direct from the St Tropez markets.
Not only were they fabulous buyers, but they are also the cutest little buyers we've ever had the pleasure of working with!!
Thanks Jack and Lily...great job!! xx

"Oh yeah...we know we look cool..."

"Phew, this buying malarky is tough...where's my ice-cream??"

Wow, what a week. Monday night at Shoreditch House was a night to be remembered! Not only was the weather scorchio – apparently the wait to get a spot on Shoreditch’s rooftop pool area was a mere 3 hours – but it was the first-ever Pop Up Boutique and Parlour!
Following a shakey start in the melting heat – mental note never to underestimate how long it takes to set up, the Pop Up got underway with a steady stream of lovely ladies coming in to peruse our wares throughout the afternoon and well into the evening.
We had an enormous turnout – thanks to all those that came along! We even had celebrity shoppers such as Mischa Barton popping by snapping up several bits and pieces from vintage, to Dahlia, to Warm Pixie! We cannot wait to spot her wearing all those little gems!
The Lash Bar hosted by In Parlour was a huge success too with lots of girlies popping by to get their lashes lengthened or their eyes shadowed and smoked!
The shopping and beautifying went on well into the night – we finally got to pack up at around 2am! It really was great to meet lots of you, and we hope you enjoyed the evening.
There are plenty more pop-ups on the agenda, so to keep updated with all the fun things we have in store, make sure you sign up to receive our newsletter (enter your email in the box at the bottom of our homepage) or join our Facebook or Twitter Groups. |
Things never stop in the pretaportobello camp. We've been working hard getting more lovely summer collections in and have another photoshoot tomorrow.
You may have heard about our Pop Up Boutique and Parlour at Shoreditch House on Monday 24th May from 3pm till late. In true SATC II spirit, why not have a girl's night out for some shopping and beautifying...and a glass of bubbly!
Hosted by top stylist, Tess Wright, who will be on-hand for fashion and interiors advice, you will be able to pick up gorgeous summer dresses, kaftans, jewellery, swimwear and homewares. Amanda Harrington from In Parlour, Chelsea will be hosting a fab lash bar to do lashes, eyebrows and smokey eyes - with prices starting from just £10.
Entry is FREE. You don't need to be a Shoreditch House member, but to gain entry you must email info@pretaportobello.com to put your name on the guestlist. No email - no entry!
We hope to see you there.
Love the pretaportobello girls...and Peanut the dog x |

| ES Magazine names pretaportobello 'Website of the Week' |
The Evening Standard's ES Magazine (which we are big fans of, of course!) has done a fab review of www.pretaportobello.com, naming it their Website of the Week.
We were thrilled to see them mention us so thought we'd share it with you!
Check out what they say here: |

| Hey hey, Victoria's been off to St Tropez... |
The French are renowned for their great markets, so when I popped over to St Tropez for the May bank holiday weekend, I just had to hit the markets to check out what goodies they have to offer. Ok ok, it's a dirty job, I know....but somebody's got to do it!!
I went along with my good friends, Tess and Loo and we had a great time rifling through all the market wares. The food is always amazing over there (we were obsessed with the bread and pastry stall), but they also had lots of fabulous homewares from terracotta pottery to beautiful linens, tableclothes, blankets, cushion covers. |
| The basket weave stuff was fab too - lots of beach baskets, espadrilles and hats galore. |
We just had to pick up some straw fedoras for the website...
These hats are so on trend and are THE perfect festival accessory that will also look great all summer long - the city, the park, the beach...you name it.
As you can see, we all just had to get one for ourselves! |
|
As it was early in the season, the traders were just starting to get all their summer pieces in. We'll definitely be popping back to the St Tropez markets later on to pick up some other great bits and bobs for the website, so make sure you watch this space. In the meantime, adieu St Trop, je t'aime...je t'aime. |

| Breaking News...GDay to Sydney's Markets! |
Always on the look out for ways to offer our pretaportobello customers that little bit more, we took a flying trip over to Sydney, Australia, to check out the markets over there. Sydney has a very similar market culture to the UK where its markets offer customers the chance to buy unique and hand made fashions and act as launch pad for its budding young designers.
Sydney’s fabulous markets create a sense of national pride and a strong “Made in Australia” vibe which serves to protect the stallholders from those selling cheap imports. In some cases their organisers enforce strict regulations and will only allow stalls dedicated to promoting Australian made and designed products.
All the Sydney market traders we met were so friendly and totally open to exploring the opportunities presented by pretaportobello.com. Word quickly spread around the market so traders had heard about us before we’d even arrived at their stalls! Here’s a little insight into our travels to Sydney…
|
LONDON – SINGAPORE – SYDNEY Very pleased with myself, in the MAC store at Heathrow, all the shop assistants were fawning over my cream Toki & Nabi Military jacket! Hope that the Sydney girls will love our pretaportobello stuff as much as the English girls
DAY 1 – EXPLORING SYDNEY Arrived in Sydney at 6.30am yuk after 21 hours on a plane – YUK. We were staying in a great location – Surrey Hills – which was a great location for wandering around and exploring the city.
Check in at our hotel wasn’t until 2pm, so with time to kill we headed down to Darling Harbour for some brekkie – weather was overcast but VERY warm – it was lovely to be wearing flipflops in February! Think we're going to like Sydney! |
|
|
|
|
|
Did some scouting around and within a few hours of arriving decided to hit the shops – thank you Amex! Took a stroll up Oxford Street which is a mecca for trendy shops, bars and restaurants, and popped into some fabulous boutiques (research purposes only – honest!)
The sales staff were very helpful and thankfully said the Sydney markets were amazing – so we started to get very excited about the next couple of days “work” in Sydney.
|
Jetlag hit at about 2.30pm so we headed back to our hotel to check in. We did some work and a few emails before swiftly passing out from exhaustion but forced ourselves to get up and get ready to go out for our first sups in Sydney at Longrain - we'd highly recommend it.
The place was seriously packed when we arrived but we soon cheered up when we spotted THE Frodo Baggins from Lord of the Rings (Elija Wood) at the bar and had a Henry Holland lookalike as our waiter! |
|
|
DAY 2 – GLEBE, PADDINGTON AND FRINGE BAR MARKETS We made the most of the all inclusive brekkie at the hotel and headed on foot to Glebe Market. It was seriously hot so we both started melting as soon as we left the hotel.
Glebe Market, Glebe Point Rd, Sydney, NSW 2037, Australia Every Saturday from 10am – 4pm
Glebe Market was very quirky and eclectic with a true market style vibe. Colourful and vibrant with a lively trade in second hand goods, records, furniture, arts, crafts, clothing, jewellery and bric-a-brac, Glebe is also a place where new designers tout their wares. It was a real experience and a great start to our Sydney Market exploration!
The day was turning into a real scorcher, so iced skinny lattes in hand, we left Glebe and set off for Paddington Market. |
|
Paddington Market, 395 Oxford Street, Paddington, Sydney, NSW 2021, Australia Every Saturday from 10am
Paddington Market seemed very different to Glebe, in that it was more structured and organised, and was on a much bigger scale. There were over 200 stalls selling a wide range of beautiful Australian made goodies, and we could see why Paddington is one of Sydney’s most popular and well known markets. We met quite a few amazing market traders here that we knew would work well on pretaportobello.com so here so started getting very excited! There was a great vibe and lots of hustle and bustle but the sun was scorching so trying things on was exhausting! |
|
 |
|
Next stop was Fringe Market, so we strolled back down Oxford Street to Fringe Bar – a famous Sydney nightspot – where we found a much smaller group of traders who set up camp every Saturday in this cool dark den of a market. Although on a much smaller stage, there was still great potential – lots of jewellery stalls, maxi dresses, handmade tops mixed in with rails of great vintage finds.
Fringe Bar Market 106 Oxford St, Paddington, Sydney, NSW 2021, Australia Every Saturday from 10am – 5pm
We stayed til closing time before heading back to the hotel to get ready for drinks at Circular Quay’s Opera Bar, and as its name suggests it overlooks the famous Opera House on Sydney Harbour. Had too many drinkies with our cousin Miles and his buddie, Angus (thanks guys!) before heading back to the hotel to get some rest before another busy day ahead of us. |
|
 |
DAY 3 – BONDI BEACH MARKET Feeling a little fragile this morning after our night out, we headed off in a cab for brekkie at the Sandpit on Bondi Beach with some great people we know, Lindy and Dan – and had a good old natter before heading off to the market. |
Bondi Beach Market, Bondi Beach Public School, Campbell Parade, Sydney, NSW 2026, Australia Every Sunday 10am-4pm
It was an absolute scorcher, the hottest day so far. We were both already feeling the heat and felt somewhat overdressed compared to all the gorgeous Bondi babes in their fabulous laid back beachwear, sporting uber cool kaftans and sundresses.
Bondi Market is a place to hang out with the Bondi crowd, shop for bargains and take up the atmosphere – it was packed but so worth the visit.
We were seriously impressed with the selection at Bondi Market with young designers selling their latest fashion lines at great prices with maxi dresses galore, trendy handmade kaftans, and loads of beach and festival wear. We met a real handful of traders who would work really well on pretaportobello.com so it was all very exciting! All in all it was a very productive day down at Bondi but the closest we got to going to the beach was to take this photo – it was torture but so much to do in such a short time! |
|
 |
| That evening we caught the ferry from Circular Quay over to Manly Wharf and headed to Manly Wharf Bar Hotel which was heaving with young, beautiful people in their really trendy summer get-up. This just made us all the more excited about bringing Sydney’s summer fashions over to the UK! A few coronas later we headed back to Surrey Hills to prepare for our day of meetings in the morning. |
Day 4 – MEETINGS, MEETINGS, MEETINGS An early start today, we headed off to follow up with some of the traders we met at the markets at their studios and to get our orders in for pretaportobello.com. We then nipped off to see the girls at Marie Claire Australia to have a chat about our plans to branch into Sydney’s markets – which they thought was a great idea! |
We then raced straight to the airport for our flight back to London and again the girl at the BA check-in desk fell in love with my Toki & Nabi cream military jacket, which I shamelessly offered to swap for an upgrade! Landed in London at 5am and headed straight back to pretaportobello HQ absolutely shattered!
London – Sydney just for a long weekend: we would certainly not recommend it! But after all we’re here to bring you the very best market fashion from around the globe – and we’re pretty sure that’s what we’ve done…..!
Check out the new fashion straight from Sydney’s Markets, coming soon to pretaportobello.com…. |
| Brrrrrr....Where are you Spring...?! |
It’s been a bit quiet on the western front of late, but do not fear we’ve not been hibernating, (although that has seemed appealing with all this chilly weather) oh no, we have - as always - been hunting around for more fabulous fashion finds to bring to your door.
With Spring almost breaking through chill, new budding brands and designers are sprouting up all over the ‘Fashion Market on the Net’ so keep your style eyes open ladies!
First up we have exciting new trader Never Fully Dressed - all of us at pretaportobello HQ have totally fallen in love with the romantic sheer layer dresses in pretty as pink as well as on trend nudes. So easy to slip on over leggings for that effortlessly cool look this season. |
|

Check out the gorgeous floral headbands from Emin and Paul, cute Fluffel necklaces and earrings, the animal sketch tees from Brat and Suzie, Trollied Dolly's super kitsch tea dresses, the Down the Rabbit Hole tote bag from Kate Garey and Stolen Thunder's Swinging Girl wooden charm necklace.

|

Don't forget we welcome your feedback (as you guys are the most important part of the market community) so please feel free to email us on info@pretaportobello.com if you like how we do things or think we could be doing something better - or simply if you just want to say hi! |
Tick tock tick tock....how time has flown by since our last update!
The pretaportobello girls have been busy bunnies, sniffing out the best fashion finds for you all. We've launched our very own jewellery that ticks all the trend boxes, and really great prices. |
With Valentines Day approaching there's so much to sort out, what to wear on that special date? What to give to that someone special? What hints to give to that someone special?
Well, we know what it is like being girls (as we are) so let us make things a bit easier for you... |
| Looking for something hot to wear? Then look no further, you gorgeous person, as we have some fantastic dresses just arrived from Goldie that are sure to create the right effect. We all love the cream and gold embellished shift dress, it says sexy but chic and is in a neutral colour that is super hot this season. Or if you want to play the cute girly girl then, new in from Pixie is this great pink ruffle knitted number is sure to have him to his knees (think Glee girly - the whole song and dance). |
|
|
For something to give him....why not treat him to one of our limited edition Collect London T-shirts are so unique and perfect for the trendy guy. Or what about a hand printed leather wallet from Stabo for a little quirky pressie - you can help him empty it by hinting at the pretaportobello things you want him to buy you (yes, it's all about you).
And finally, before we run out of "time", make sure you have a butchers at our fantastically desirable his and hers watches collection from new trader Neon Dilligaf (Does It Look Like I Give A F**k). In some great colours for summer, and at amazingly low prices, these make the ideal pressies...only problem is one just isn't enough! |
| Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow |
| Here at pretaportobello HQ we've hardly had time to eat our mince pies... there's been all your lovely orders to pack and post out (thank you); new traders coming on board such as the fantastic Mina UK with some printed prettiness to take us through to Spring, Emin and Paul with their fab headbands and Fluffels with some super cute sterling silver jewellery. A firm favourite of ours is the fairground grabber kitty necklace – possibly the cutest necklace we’ve ever seen. |
Mina UK - gorgeous prints |
Fluffels - super cute sterling silver and acrylic jewellery |
|
And to top off all the excitement, it’s been snowing all week!! Georgie couldnt be happier, (fingers crossed for a white Xmas), and we’ve all been wearing our snuggly Dahlia coats to keep us warm. Peanut is the only one that is not that keen on the weather change. Unlike the pretaportobello girls, he does not like wearing his coat...
Even though the holidays are practically upon us we are still working hard to make sure we continue to bring you wonderful finds from near and far for the New Year...plus of course prepping for our Boxing Day SALE (keep your eyes peeled, there will be some real bargains). We’ll send updates on the sale in the next few days.
In the meantime the pretaportobello girls (and Peanut of course) want to wish you all a very merry... and fashionable... festive season. Keep checking the site for last minute pre-Christmas offers for those panic moments when you realise you still have presents to buy! |
With best wishes
The pretaportobello Girls Lisette, Georgie and Victoria xxx |
| We're all getting soooo excited about Crimbo here at pretaportobello HQ. The decorations are up, antler hats are on and we're all singing carols at the top of our voices - not too popular with the neighbours! And let's not forget the pretaportobello Advent Calendar which seems to be popular with our followers! Make sure you check it out daily for some fantastic one-day offers. |
 |
We do know that this year it's good to budget and that is why we have been busy Santa helpers by scouting around the markets and our traders to find you unique but affordable fashionable fair for your pennies. We've added some fantastic new stocking fillers from Stolen Thunder... |
Talking value for money (literally) we especially we love the new 'old coin' inspired jewellery from Belle de Jour - it's the new bling! Belle de Jour also have some fantastic new charm necklaces (following comments from our customers, we've introduced long and short chains).
Then what to give your 'hard working' boyfriend when you are sure he has bought your fave pretaportobello item, but a collectable 'Skint' t-shirt from our new trader 'Collect London' that showcases new and talented artists' work on 100 limited run t-shirts for men and women.
 |
Continuing with the money theme, we have decided to make are own (gift vouchers that is), in denominations from £5 to £100. They make the ideal and unique present for those who are not always easy to buy for.
 |
| Another X-factor last week, and we are happy that pretaportobello has gone through again with Dannii supporting a new brand of accessories - Emin and Paul by wearing their new feather bow head band. That makes 3 weeks with Miss Minogue supporting pretaportobello's headbands, testimant to the fact that us gals at pretaportobello sure do have some great taste!! |
 |
| Shopping...the nightmare before Christmas |
Is it me or are friends and family getting harder to buy for? Salvation may be at hand, though ... we have some great bits and pieces in stock that make THE perfect pressies.
Check out Kate Garey's super fun wallets, bags and makeup cases that are uber cool and totally different...that'll get a few people ticked off the list. And Stabo's cute little hand printed leather travel card holders, make up bags and key fobs cover everyone from sisters, brothers, cousins, parents and friends...suddenly I'm not feeling so bad after all. |
| Stabo leather gifts: travel card holders £7.50; key fobs £6 |
Kate Garey cute gifts: from £12.99 |
And what about your most stylish friends? What on earth do you get for the future editor of Vogue?! Well, it just so happens that pretaportobello has just got another fantastic jewellery and accessories designer in - Yours Faithfully. They do some amazingly unique pieces that would make the perfect gifts. Plus they come in fab gift bags, so no need for wrapping!... |
| Christmas is coming...and we are getting fatter (too many mince pies!) |
| Well we have all done are letters to Santa now and hope (and pray) that the postman will deliver them in time....even Peanut has pawed a request for a new squeaky ball to drive us mad with. |
Personally I am being a smarty pants and asking for trends that I know (you know) that will take me into next Spring. I love the Jovonna cream blouse out in Grazia this week - it's soooo perfect for that in between time and I have it on good authority that cream, pastels and neutrals are super on trend for next season.
Don't forget to check out the Vintage section too, and be quick to grab a unique bargain. We're adding new bits all the time, so perfect for those of you that are after a really individual look.
Anyhow must sign off now as a new delivery has just arrived and I'll tell, you about it real soon.... |
|
| Party on - here come the girls..... |
The best thing about this time of year is the gift of the excuse every girl needs to get dressed up and us pretaportobello girls are no exception.
This Winter it's to wear more sparkle than the festive lights on Oxford Street and we can not wait to blind all our friends with our shining stunners. The sequin Sido headband has been flying off the shelves showing that you girls must be thinking the very same thing! |
|
 |
 |
Sido 20s Sequin Headband £19 |
Jarlo Sequin One Shoulder Dress £65 |
Dahlia Gold Foil Jacket £49; Dress £45.50 |
| Not Loving the Typical UK Weather! |
 |
 |
| Not much gossip our end - we just haven’t had the time to play last week with Christmas looming, new stock coming in and orders to send out to make sure they reach you before the festive season. Check out our delivery page for more information on delivery times. |
| Still it looks like we'll have our gift lists ticked off quicker than Katie Price can complete a bush tucker trial with amazing new goodies arriving from Tabitha Bags, Tullulah Tu and a new designer we cannot wait to get up on the site, “Yours Faithfully” jewellery – you’re gonna LOVE it! |
|
I just hope that by the time the Xmas eating and drinking has passed me by, I'll still be able to fit into my fabulous new Legins – we are all over the Olivia Newton John-esq silky ones.... I've got chills, they’re multiplying.......... (brrrrr, with this weather I actually do – better wrap up in one of Dahlia’s cracking winter coats quick smart)!
 |
| pretaportobello helps Denise Van Outen at the Charity Garage Sale! |
What with our regular fix of Style Magazine, which this week named us a great place for vintage finds and something out of the ordinary; this Sunday we were privileged and thrilled to take part in The Really Really Great Garage Sale at Selfridges, London to raise money for Mothers4Children!
This was no run of the mill car boot or any garage for that matter...it was a fabulous charity event held in the Selfridges car park by Yasmin Le Bon, Lisa B, Louise Redknapp and Denise Van Outen amongst many other celebs all selling wares (including their own designer kit) to us mere mortals!!
The pretaportobello team were there to help out on Denise Van Outen’s and TV presenter Sam Mann’s stall. Pretaportobello and some of its wonderful traders had kindly donated some fantastic bits for us to sell. As a result our stall really stood out selling brand new top class fashion at slashed prices.
With queues of over 800 people even before the sale even opened, understandably chaos descended along with huge crowds gathering to see the celebs in the flesh, bag a real bargain and a chance to own a piece of celeb memorabilia.
The doors opened at 12noon and then the rest was a frantic blur. But chaos aside, it was an amazing experience. The pretaportobello girls still managed to meet a whole host of celebs and our stall raised £3,000 for the Mothers4Children charity...not to mention that I walked away with a stunning bargain dress from Yasmin Le Bon...just need to figure out a way to fit into it...put down the Toblerone!
Visit: www.mothers4children.com for more info.
Suffice to say that when it was all over even the temptation of Jimmy Choo for H&M could not lure us to join another throng of the fashion hungry congregation. Nope, we literally flopped on the sofa, switched on X Factor and didn’t move for the rest of the night! |
|
|
As the newly biting chill hits us here at pretaportobello, it suddenly dawns on us that the festive season is vast approaching and all that comes with it (yikes!)....
Last weekend we took our little dog Peanut - how cute is he?! - for a jaunt around the markets to sniff out any new talent and to say hi to our existing traders (it's a hard job but someone has to do it).
We also spotted lots of new market talent, so watch this space for new traders that will be adding in the coming weeks.
After a few hours I was glad to be wearing our recent 'star buy', in the shape of the new dogtooth high collared coat from Dahlia.
Not only did it keep me warm and snuggly given the nip in the air, but it also became the focus of a few regulars in my local cafe; which is always full of wonderful characters with opinions on a huge array of topics...from what Danni was wearing on X-factor (pretaportobello 2 weeks in a row), to world peace!
Then someone piped up ... ONLY 8 WEEKS UNTIL CHRISTMAS ... well, I almost choked on my latte! Christmas... already... but I've only just got out my winter coat?! |

As finalists, the PaP girls attended the exclusive O2 X Entrepreneur of the Year awards ceremony in central London. It was a star studded affair with celebs such as Donna Air, Yasmin le Bon, Davina McCall and Jo and Leah Wood! And great canapes too!
Unfortunately, pretaportobello was pipped at the post and did not win the overall Entrepreneur of the Year Award. However, it was a great honour to be nominated for such an accolade only one year after launching pretaportobello.com. The awards was a truly great experience and we received some fantastic comments and words of encouragement about the website. Onwards and upwards, that’s what we say!
|
Kate Garey Accessories – New PaP Trader added! |
PaP stumbled upon this fantastic brand selling the cutest bags, wallets and accessories.
Kate Garey takes inspiration from quirky, cute, weird and wonderful things. She draws on everyday items, such as a tea cup, and adds winking eyes and blushing cheeks to make instant cuteness.
These little gems would definitely make the perfect stocking fillers!!
Check out her fab designs here.
